History
Strapless fashions have been around in various forms for quite a long time, particularly in the form of ball gowns and formal dresses. In the days when women wore tight laced up dresses, there was little need for anything extra to hold them up, they could be relied upon to keep themselves up.
When later versions of the strapless dress and gown became popular, women were wearing bras, so it was then necessary for strapless bras to be developed, to wear with the strapless dresses and tops.
Later, boob tubes, strapless crop tops and strapless vest tops became extremely popular and these can be worn with or without a bra, according to the wearer’s preference and support needs.
In recent years, various versions of the convertible bra have been developed, each with its own idea of how the variations can be managed, allowing the wearer to choose whether to have straps showing at the shoulders, crossing over at the back, showing on one side only, for wearing with off one shoulder dresses and tops, the possibilities can make them suitable for a wide variety of styles.
